Reasons to hold your murder mystery at The Grand Brighton
Venue location and style
The Grand Brighton is a luxury 4 star hotel located directly on Brighton seafront and within arms reach of the famous pier. The property itself dates back to Victorian times and still retains many of its period features today. The hotel’s endless charm combined with its outstanding food and moreish cocktails make The Grand Brighton a fantastic venue for your Sherlock Holmes themed murder mystery dinner.
Private dining spaces at The Grand Brighton
There are five private dining spaces suitable for murder mystery events at The Grand Brighton. Firstly, the Eugenie and Napoleon Suites, both of which boast sea views, a private balcony and their own toilet facility. In these spaces, up to 24 guests can gather around one boardroom-style dining table to try and solve the mystery. Next, the Consort Room on the ground floor is available for slightly larger groups of 24+ people to enjoy. The Regent Room (min 35 guests) was traditionally the gentlemen’s smoking room and is still full of character today, the two most striking features being its wood-pannelled walls and historical display cabinets. Finally, big groups of 50+ guests would be invited to join Sherlock in the Albert Suite, the hotel’s Victorian ballroom, however, a murder mystery of this size would need an alternative format so please contact us to discuss things further.
We think this is one of the best venues in Brighton for a murder mystery night but rather than take our word for it, why not check out The Grand Brighton’s independent reviews on TripAdvisor. If for any reason you’re still not sure then why not hire a murder mystery actor to come to a venue of your choice.
About our interactive murder mystery events
The murder mystery plot
It’s 1908 and your host, Professor Cornelius Kettlewell, scientist and inventor, has invited a selection of his most esteemed acquaintances to dinner. Unfortunately, all is not as it seems and one of his trusted contacts has proven not to be so trustworthy after all! Enter your very own super sleuth, the one-and-only Sherlock Holmes.
Format of the murder mystery
Ahead of your murder mystery at the The Grand Brighton, a number of your guests will be supplied with clues, secrets and motives which will see them suspected of committing the most horrendous of crimes (have you guessed what it is yet!?). Then, on the day in question, our detective – Sherlock Holmes – will attend the venue to quiz the suspects. The plot will unfold as each guest discovers their part in the events that resulted in a murder, finally leading to the shocking revelation that one of them is a killer!
The interactive nature of this event makes it perfect for a variety of different occasions including team building days, birthday parties and hen nights.
We require a minimum of 10 guests for the murder mystery to work at this venue and can allocate a maximum of 15 character roles. Any guests above this number need not be left out though as there are plenty of jobs for willing detectives; making notes during the suspect testimonies, examining clues and trying to uncover the murderer.
For groups of 26+ a second actor playing the part of Dr Watson is included free-of-charge.
Groups of 40+ should contact us to discuss other murder mystery styles that are more suited to higher numbers.
Looking to go all-out? Contact us to discuss a range of optional extras; for example a vintage singer, jazz band, photographer, magician (can be linked to the murder mystery plot), photo booth, hotel bedrooms or pre-event meeting space etc.

Our interactive murder mysteries can be tailored to run to your schedule, whether around a lunch or a dinner. But as a rough guide the murder mystery parties usually follow the following format:
7.00pm – Guests arrive for Prosecco welcome drink
7.30pm – Murder mystery begins
7.50pm – Dinner is served
10.00pm – Carriages
Please treat the above as a guide rather than an exact schedule.
At all of our parties we want our guests to feel comfortable and have a great time.
Our interactive murder mystery nights work really well when guests dress up as the parts that they will be playing. For instance, a police officer or wealthy baroness. That said, we don’t enforce a dress code so we’ll leave the decision up to you and your guests
We cater for all dietary requirements and these can be noted on the paperwork we send once you have booked. The only exception is kosher which requires specialist caterers so please contact us for more information.
We require a deposit of £30+VAT per guest in order to secure your booking, the final balance is due four weeks before the party.
