Reasons to hold your murder mystery at the Bonham Hotel Edinburgh
Venue location and style
The 5 star Bonham Hotel is located in the West End of Edinburgh but only a ten minute walk from Princess Street. The property is actually a combination of three Victorian town houses which, despite recent renovations, retain much of their original character. Occupied in the 19th century by wealthy families and their servants, The Bonham Hotel is the perfect setting for our Sherlock Holmes themed murder mystery dinners.
Private dining spaces at the Bonham
There are two private dining spaces available at this venue. Firstly, the delightful Dean Suite which offers high ceilings and bay windows with views of Drumsheugh Gardens. Here, up to 30 guests can be seated around one boardroom-style dining table for the murder mystery itself, whilst the adjoining Library is a fantastic addition for the drinks reception. Alternatively, slightly larger groups (min 25, max 40) would be invited to meet Sherlock in a privatised section of the Bonham’s No. 35 restaurant.
We could write so much about the food and service at this venue but rather than take our word for it, why not check out The Bonham’s independent reviews on TripAdvisor. We think you’ll agree that this is one of the best murder mystery venues in Edinburgh, however, if you’re still not sure then why not hire a murder mystery actor to come to a venue of your choice.
About our interactive murder mystery events
The murder mystery plot
It’s 1908 and your host, Professor Cornelius Kettlewell, scientist and inventor, has invited a selection of his most esteemed acquaintances to dinner. Unfortunately, all is not as it seems and one of his trusted contacts has proven not to be so trustworthy after all! Enter your very own super sleuth, the one-and-only Sherlock Holmes.
Format of the murder mystery
Ahead of your murder mystery at the Bonham Edinburgh, a number of your guests will be supplied with clues, secrets and motives which will see them suspected of committing the most horrendous of crimes (have you guessed what it is yet!?). Then, on the day in question, our detective – Sherlock Holmes – will attend the venue to quiz the suspects. The plot will unfold as each guest discovers their part in the events that resulted in a murder, finally leading to the shocking revelation that one of them is a killer!
The interactive nature of this event makes it perfect for a variety of different occasions including team building days, birthday parties and hen nights.
We require a minimum of 8 guests for the murder mystery to work and can allocate a maximum of 15 character roles. Any guests above this number need not be left out though as there are plenty of jobs for willing detectives; making notes during the suspect testimonies, examining clues and trying to uncover the murderer.
For groups of 26+ a second actor playing the part of Dr Watson is included free-of-charge.
Groups of 40+ should contact us to discuss other murder mystery styles that are more suited to higher numbers.
Looking to go all-out? Contact us to discuss a range of optional extras; for example a vintage singer, jazz band, photographer, magician (can be linked to the murder mystery plot), photo booth, hotel bedrooms or pre-event meeting space etc.

Our interactive murder mysteries can be tailored to run to your schedule, whether around a lunch or a dinner. But as a rough guide the murder mystery parties usually follow the following format:
7.00pm – Guests arrive for Prosecco welcome drink
7.30pm – Murder mystery begins
7.50pm – Dinner is served
10.00pm – Carriages
Please treat the above as a guide rather than an exact schedule.
At all of our parties we want our guests to feel comfortable and have a great time.
Our interactive murder mystery nights work really well when guests dress up as the parts that they will be playing. For instance, a police officer or wealthy baroness. That said, we don’t enforce a dress code so we’ll leave the decision up to you and your guests
We cater for all dietary requirements and these can be noted on the paperwork we send once you have booked. The only exception is kosher which requires specialist caterers so please contact us for more information.
We require a deposit of £30+VAT per guest in order to secure your booking, the final balance is due four weeks before the party.
